Pella Chronicle, Pella, Iowa Thursday, October 7. 1948

Ralph Van Vliet was born in Des Moines, Iowa, April 10,1927, and passed away September 27, 1948.

He was a graduate of Pella High School and had been enrolled at Coe College, Cedar Rapids, Ia., when his untimely death occurred.

Ralph enlisted in the army to serve his country in World War II and served in the U. S. and also in China. His enlistment date was May 5, 1945. He was honorably discharged January 20, 1947. He was a member of Van Veen-Van Hemert Post of the American Legion.

Immediate survivors are his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Van Vliet, a sister, Mrs. I. F. Kopecky living at New London, Conn., a sister, Mrs. Glen Van Vark living at Iowa City, Ia., J.M. Van Vliet, Jr. and Mary Van Vliet at home. He also leaves a large number of friends at both Otley and Pella.

Services were held at 3 o' clock Wednesday, September 29, 1948, from the Cooperative home for Funerals. Rev. F. Tanis officiated. He was assisted by Rev. L. W. Muller. Bearer were Paul Sents, William Vanden Berg, Nelson Vos, Paul Van Hemert, Glen Van Vark, and Ray Robus. Burial was in Oakwood Cemetery.
