Amos Wymore was born March 1, 1842 in Indiana, and died at his home in White Oak township, March 9, 1900, at 8:30 p.m., aged 58 years and 9 days. He came with his parents to Iowa when young and grew to manhood on a farm. He enlisted in Co. C of the 15th Iowa Vol. Inf., Oct. 22, 1861, under Jas. A. Seevers as captain. After serving fourteen months he was discharged on account of disability contracted while in the service. He was at the great Battle of Shiloh, at the Siege of Corinth and many other engagements of less importance. He was married May 10, 1866, to Mrs. Mary Tanner. To this union there were seven children born. Five died in infancy; Julian and Hattie are still living. Julian is married while Hattie is at home with her mother. Mr. Wymore had been very successful as a farmer and stock raiser, having accumulated about 300 acres of good land, all well improved with good buildings and everything to make life happy as a far as this world's goods were concerned. He was a member of the Odd Fellows lodge of Rose Hill, being treasurer of same. He was buried under the direction of the order and there was a very large turnout of the membership. The funeral was preached by Rev. A. W. McBlain at the Wymore M. E. church at 11 a.m., Sunday, where interment was made. The deceased was sick only a short time, being bedfast but four days. The community deeply sympathizes with Mrs. Wymore and children in this sore affliction. (Oskaloosa Herald, March 15, 1900, p. 5)
