Friday Rites For Liggett

MARTINSBURG - Funeral services for Wesley Lloyd Liggett, 79, of Martinsburg, will be Friday, 2 p.m., at Fremont Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Kermit Black officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery in Ottumwa.

Liggett died Tuesday at Jefferson County Hospital in Fairfield. He was born Dec. 20, 1898 near Kirkwood, Ill., the son of Wesley and Elsie Stuck Liggett.

He moved to a farm near Packwood in 1918 and farmed near Fairfield and Farson until retiring in 1968 and moving to Martinsburg. He was a member of Abingdon Lodge 104 AF and AM and Arbor Vitae Chapter 237, OES in Batavia.

He married Kathryn Nelson Sept. 11, 1929 in Fairfield. She survives.

Also surviving are one son, Edward of Pella; one daughter, Norma Sanchez of Martinsburg; six grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; two brothers, Theodore of Fairfield and Bill of Packwood; two sisters, Orpha Pequignot of Ottumwa and Effie Nelson of Cambridge, Ill. Three sisters preceded him in death.
