ROZENBOOM-VAN GILST
The single ring ceremony uniting Miss Ada Mae Van Gilst of Cedar and Gysbert J. Rozenboom of Wright was performed at 2 p.m. Thursday, August 1, 1940, at the Christian Reformed church in Oskaloosa by Rev. J.D. Pikaart. Decorations of the church included palms and gladiolas.
A white net, floor length gown was worn by the bride who also wore a finger tip veil and carried a bouquet of red roses. Mrs. Ernest DeBruin of Oskaloosa, twin sister of the bride, as maid of honor was attired in a white floor length gown of lace over satin. Miss Johanna Rozenboom, sister of the bridegroom, as bridesmaid wore a pink and blue net gown. Corsages matched their gowns. Flower girl was Miss Marilyn Groenendyk, niece of the bridegroom, Geraldine Rozenboom, niece of the bridegroom was ring bearer. Garrett Rozenboom, brother, attended as best man.
Miss Jeannetta Rozenboom played "Adoration" previous to the ceremony and Lohengrin's and Mendelssohn's wedding marches for the wedding. Jeannette and Martha Rozenboom sang "God Will Take Care of You," accompanied by Mrs. Pete Groenendyk.
Reception for the 160 guests attending was held in the basement of the church following the ceremony. Relatives and friends from Pella, Otley, Monroe and Oskalosoa were present.
The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Peter Van Gilst of Cedar and has been at home since completing her schooling.
The bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. George Rozenboom of Wright. He was graduated from Lacey high school and completed two years of college work at Central college at Pella. He is now a student of the seminary at Calvin college in Grand Rapids, Mich.
The couple left on a week's wedding trip to the Ozarks of Missouri. They will make their home this next year in Grand Rapids and will not go until September. (likely from The Oskaloosa Herald, August 1940).
