Lela Mae Rexroad

Lela Mae Rexroad, 84, died Sunday at Dunaway Manor in Guymon following a long illness. Mrs. Rexroad, the only child of Ellsworth Alexander and Lucie Kukuk Alexander, was born in Winterset, Iowa, on Jan. 22, 1899.

They came to Goodwell where they united with the Panhandle Centenary Methodist Church on Oct.11, 1914. In 1919 she was married to Perl Rexroad who preceded her in death on March 25 of this year.

There were three daughters born to this union. They are Louise, now Mrs. Johnny Grammer of Hobbs, N.M.; Mary Lou, now Mrs. Dean Strain; and Rita, now Mrs. Gene Strain both of Goodwell.

She is survived by her daughters, five grandchildren, Gary and Joyce Grammer, Max Strain, and Rex and Jack Strain, their spouses, and eight great-grandchildren.

Services were conducted from the Methodist Church at 10 on Tuesday by the Rev. George Warren, pastor. Interment was in the Goodwell cemetery.

Mrs. Rexroad was a faithful member of the Panhandle Centenary United Methodist Church for almost 70 years. She served as Sunday School teacher and superintendent as well as an active member of the choir for over 50 years. She was active for many years in the missionary society. She was also a charter member of the Home Lovers Demonstration Club and of the Goodwell Garden Club.
