Mrs. Sarah Alexander Gone
Paralytic Stroke From Which She Fails to Recover

The sudden and unexpected death or Mrs. Sarah Jane Alexander at her home on North Main street shortly before 8 o’clock Tuesday evening came as a shock to her many friends.

Mrs. Alexander had been slightly ailing for the past six weeks, but is said to have felt unusually well Tuesday until shortly after 5 o'clock when she was seized with an attack of cerebral hemorrhage, which immediately developed a paralytic condition from which she never rallied. She had completed an unusual day's work about the house and apparently had no knowledge of the approaching crisis.

Mrs. Alexander was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John C. Currey, and was born in Knox county, Illinois, July 15, 1853, being at the time of her demise, 70 years, 5 months and 24 days old. She was married to James M. Alexander, Dec. 31, 1871 in Warren county, Iowa, and has lived in Waverly for the past 21 years.

Mrs. Alexander was the mother of six children: Elsworth and Joseph, of Goodwell, Okla.; Chester, Mrs. Elva Kukuk, Mrs. Elizabeth Barrett, and Mrs. Hattie Michael, of Waverly.

Her| husband, James M. Alexander, survives her. She also is survived by 15 grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

Deceased was a devoted and very active member in the Waverly M. E. church, and a happy, jovial disposition created hosts of friends for her wherever she went. She was one of the most highly esteemed women in the community; always known as a great, kind and loving friend of the sick and needy, and always one of the first to offer help where needed. She will be sadly missed among her large circle of friends.

Funeral services will be conducted at the M. E. church this (Friday) morning at 10:30, under the direction of the Rev. A. R. Williams. Interment will be in Waverly cemetery.

Transcriber's note: The Alexander family was living in Madison Township, Madison County during the 1895 Iowa State Census. There were 6 children in the family at that time and all were listed as having been born in Madison County, the eldest being born in 1872. But there is some doubt to that as the family was in Warren County in 1880 and sons born in 1879 and 1884 claim to be born at Milo, Warren County in later vital records.
