A Trip to Macksburg

Editors Madisonian:--I have just returned from Macksburg, attending the funeral services of mother Lee, of Grand River township. She was one of the pioneers of that neighborhood, having moved there when the inhabitants were scarce.

She was one of the excellent of the earth, being of a remarkably calm, patient, pleasant disposition. For years she had been a sufferer from feeble health, and gradually wore down till her system gave out. She came to her grave in a good old age, fully matured is all the graces of Christian character. Her memory is truly blessed and remains as a sweet perfume to her acquaintances. I never heard anyone speak a word against mother Lee. She adored her Christian profession. She was a member of the Presbyterian church at Winterset.

The funeral services were conducted in the Baptist church at Macksburg. A large attentive congregation was present. A very long procession followed the body to its last resting place in Moon cemetery, a mile and a half south of the village. J. H. Potter

Transcriber's note: First name taken from gravestone at Moon cemetery.
