Dennis Dean Brown

Dennis Dean Brown, 77, of Eldora died Wednesday, July 13, 2022, peacefully in his home.

Visitation will be from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 19, 2022 at Caldwell Parrish Funeral home, Winterset Chapel. Burial will follow in the Union Chapel Cemetery in rural Madison County.

Dennis was born on November 10, 1944, in Winterset, Iowa, to Arthur Brown and Sarah (Overturf) Brown. After the death of his birth mother, his father married Lucile (McKee) Brown who continued to raise and love him throughout her life. Dennis was a graduate of Winterset High School in 1963 where he was a member of the Huskies football team and an excellent catcher for the baseball team. In January 1965, Dennis married Sally Ann Comer of Lorimor, Iowa and had four children. He worked for Wellman’s Dynamic in Creston, Iowa for over 45 years where he was a devoted union representative who fought for workers’ rights and safety.

Dennis was an avid lifelong Iowa Hawkeyes fan who enjoyed cracking jokes with Iowa State fans; especially those in his family. He enjoyed collecting and meticulously cataloging sports cards, coins, cast iron cookware and many other things that brought him joy. Dennis was a fantastic bowler who maintained a high average and once bowled a 296 game. He was an excellent bead worker and leather smith who participated in primitive black powder musket rendezvous where he shared his love of camping with his children. A hard-working devoted father who always took time to make it to his children’s events, an ornery jokester, and a loving grandfather, son and brother. He lived a humble life who found pleasure in the simple things while walking his own path and living on his own terms.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Sarah and Arthur Brown, and Lucille Brown; as well as his brother, Samuel Brown; and stepbrother, Gary Garrett.

Dennis is survived by his children, Lisa Brown of Cedar Rapids, Cindy (Louis) Weis of Elk Point, SD, Melissa Rosati of Eldora and Jeremiah (Brandy) Brown of Virginia Beach, VA; sister, Diana Pickering of Winterset; brother, Gary (Pam) Brown of Winterset; stepbrother, Jim Garrett; stepsister, DeLynn Beverlin; 12 beautiful grandchildren, Adam Heaivilin, Christopher (Casey) Brown, Ashley (Orlando) Ortega, Katie (Daniel) Stratman, Nicholas Weis, Joseph Weis, Andrew Rosati, Shiloh McCloud, Aiden McCloud, Kylie Brown, Samantha Brown, and Thomas Brown; and one great grandchild, Aella Brown.
