Albert Charles Fagen, age 69, passed from this life into eternal life on October 3, 2021, in Phoenix, AZ. He was surrounded by his 2 children, friend Deanna, and close friends Tom and Olivia.

Al, as he preferred to be called, graduated in 1969 from Earlham Community School. He married Cris Fagen and two children were born, Tammy and Tom. Al bragged about his children’s accomplishments and work ethic to his friends, nurses, and pretty much anyone he visited with.

Al worked at Oscar Meyer out of high school alongside his father, Harold Fagen. Al left Oscar Meyer in the early 80’s and managed Earlham Appliance and True Value for several years before working for friends Rick Martin and Jim Price. He found his true calling at Farm Bureau as an insurance agent, and later as an agency manager. Al worked in multiple offices across Iowa, and New Mexico, serving for more than 20 years. He mentored many agents, including his son and was respected by many. Al’s clients, and the agents he worked with, were very important to him. Al moved to Surprise, Arizona in 2019, a lifelong dream of his. He began working at the resort he lived in, eventually starting a property management business of his own. Al had a knack for customer service and taking care of people. He always gave his best and believed if you were going to do something, you better do it right. Wherever he worked or lived, he volunteered and contributed consistently.

Al’s favorite hobby was flying. He received his pilot’s license in 1975 and owned several airplanes over the years. He enjoyed watching NASCAR and starting 25 projects at the same time, including writing endless notes that his daughter and son are still going through for guidance.

In the last year Al had spent many weeks in and out of the hospital with heart failure, waiting for a heart transplant. Throughout, he remained positive and tough when most would have given up. Until the end he was a fighter.

Al was preceded in death by his brother Harold Jr, father Harold, mother Marie, and brother Alan Fagen. He is survived by his daughter, Tammy Bushong (Paul), son Tom Fagen (Pam), grandchildren Samantha Wasson (Jesse), Benjamin Evans, Natalie Evans, Kyle Bushong, Abe Bushong, Josie Fagen, and Wyatt Fagen. Great grandchildren Jemma Wasson, Waylon Wasson, Rory Evans, Adley Wasson, girlfriend Deanna French, and his beloved dogs Molly, Cujo, and Buster.

Services will be Saturday, October 23rd, 2021, at 1:30 p.m. at the Earlham Community Center he helped build. A burial will immediately follow at Penn Center Cemetery.
