Glenn M. Mapes
November 2nd, 1938 - March 10th, 2019

Glenn Mapes was called to be with the Lord on March 10, 2019. He was 80.

A memorial gathering in Glenn’s honor will begin at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, May 11, 2019, at the Winterset City Park. Burial will be in the Montpelier Cemetery, near Patterson. Memorial contributions may be directed to the family.

Glenn Melvin Mapes was born November 2, 1938, in Madison County, Iowa, the son of Harold and Vergie (Huss) Mapes. He married Sondra Housman on September 14, 1958, and to this union five children were born.

Glenn worked in maintenance at the Savory Hotel in downtown Des Moines for close to 30 years. Prior to this, he was employed as a welder with Pittsburg Des Moines Steel.

He is survived by his five children, Rhonda (Craig) Fleming of Des Moines; David (Nancy) Mapes of Perry; Brian Mapes of Des Moines; Ron Mapes of Perry; Alicia (Dan) Berry of Perry; a brother, Gail (Cyndi) Mapes of Mount Ayr; brother-in-law, Dennis McDonald of Winterset; many grandchildren, great grandchildren, niece, nephews, extended family and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, ex-wife, Sondra Mapes; girlfriend, Linn Jennings; daughter-in-law, JoAnne Mapes and two sisters, Sheenie McDonald and Norma (Vern) Key.
