Margery Virginia Appell, age 92, of St. Louis Park, MN, passed away Jan. 3, 2013 at home. She was born November 24, 1920 on a farm near Dexter, the first of five children born to Carl and Anna Schafer. Margery married Donald Appell on Jan. 6, 1942. He passed away in 1976. (Services for Margery were held Thursday, Jan. 10 at Westwood Lutheran Church in St. Louis Park, MN.)

Margery was a graduate of St. James Minnesota High where she was the school Drum Majorette and award winning baton twirler. She worked in a metal factory during WWII. She was also a CNA. She devoted her life mainly to her family as a wonderful homemaker, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Margery was a member of the Dexter Lutheran Church when she lived in the area.

Margery is survived by her six children: Linda (John) Maitland of Cedar Falls; Joyce (Charles) Funderburk of Yellow Springs, OH; Marilyn Allmon of Benson, MN; Carol Appell of St. Lois Park, MN; Debra (Owen) Shannon of Minnetonka, MN; and son and caregiver Scott Appell of St. Louis Park, MN. She is also survived by six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; her sister Judy (Bill) Owen of Milton, FL; and many nieces and nephews. Also surviving her are sister-in-law Crystal Schafer of Los Osos, CA; and a brother-in-law Gene Fox of Oxnard, CA.

Margery was preceded in death by her husband, Donald; her parents Carl and Anna Schafer; her sister Audrey Fox; her sister Ruth Thorsen and Ruth’s husband Gordon; her brother Edwin Schafer; and her son-in-law Jack Allmon.

Margery loved big band music, going to the lake, visiting the Minnesota Arboretum and spending time with her family. She will be greatly missed.
