Dorothy Brown, 96, of Creston, died Wednesday, November 7, 2018 at the Creston Specialty Care in Creston. Private Family Graveside Celebration of Life Memorial Services will be at a later date at Graceland Cemetery in Creston. Online condolences can be made at powersfh.com.

Dorothy Elaine Brown, son of Essie Leona (Bullock) Ray and Joe Ray, was born June 1, 1922 in Thayer, Iowa. In 1940, she graduated from Thayer High School.

Dorothy married Josiah Norman Brown in Winterset, Iowa. They settled in Creston where she began working as a machine operator at Gits Manufacturing. Josiah died in 1957 and Dorothy continued her work at Gits Manufacturing for many more years until her retirement.

Survivors include her son, Tim (wife Vicki) Brown of Creston; a daughter, Penny McNeer of Springfield, Ore.; eight grandchildren, Colette Staats of Kansas City, Mo., Jessica Brown of Creston, Zachary Brown of Creston, Jerry Lawrence of Iowa, Christopher McNeer of Va., Randy McNeer, Melanie Stroup and Jamie Herrara, all of Oregon; and many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Josiah Brown; two brothers, Joe and Keith Ray and four sisters: Grace Ray, Gladys (husband Russell) Spainhower, Vera (husband Allen) Stream and Ethylene Ray.
