FINAL RITES HELD FOR GEORGE MISSILDINE

George Edward Missildine, son of Josiah and Amanda Missildine, was born on a farm near Winterset, Iowa, on November 12, 1876. He attended the country school where he later taught. He graduated from the State Normal School at Cedar Falls in 1904 with a B. A. degree.

On June 9, 1904, he was married to Ella Barnes.

He was baptized and united with the Methodist Episcopal church in 1905 and was a member of the Masonic and Oddfellows lodges and also the Rebekahs and O.E.S.

After teaching at Mondamin and Hancock, Iowa, he came to Galva in 1907 as superintendent of the Galva Consolidated School.

During the summers of 1908 and 1909 he attended school at Iowa City and was awarded a Life Diploma in teaching.

From September 1, 1909 until July 1, 1913, Mr. Missildine was postmaster at the Galva Post Office. In 1913 he accepted the position of teller in the Galva First National Bank, serving in this position for a number of years.

From July 1928 until July 1, 1932, he was again postmaster of the Galva Post Office.

George Missildine served for many years an instructor in the Galva Consolidated School.

He will long be remembered in Galva as a devoted and faithful civic worker, never neglecting his duties in the many offices he served in this community.

Mr. Missildine is survived by his widow, Ella; a daughter, Mrs. Eva Simms of Galva; one grandson, Rudy Simms of Storm Lake; one sister, Mrs. Laura Zollers of Buffalo, New York; three brothers, Hugh of Hansel, Iowa, Alfred of Mason City and Lee of Des Moines.

Funeral services were held on Thursday afternoon at 2 o’clock at the Galva Methodist church with Rev. Scrivner officiating. The Oddfellow and Masonic lodges took part in the services. Burial was made in the Galva Cemetery.
