Jennie G. Bishop Dies Wednesday

Mrs. Jennie G. Bishop, 76, a resident of Creston for the past four years and before that a resident of Orient most of her life, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs Charlotte B. Augustine, at Indianola, Wednesday morning.

Funeral services will be held at the Orient Congregational church at 2 p. m. Saturday. Rev. Penn Chambers, the pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in the Orient cemetery. Her body is at Coens Home for Funerals here. Her family will be at the funeral home from 7:30 to 8:30 p. m. Friday. Her body will lie in state at the church before the services and the casket will not be opened after the services.

Jennie Graham was born in Madison county, Feb. 9, 1883. She was the daughter of Samuel A. and Elizabeth Thompson Graham. She was married at Spaulding, June 22, 1904, to Claude O. Bishop, who preceded her in death last Nov. 2. Mrs. Bishop lived at Orient until coming to Creston four years ago to make her home with her daughter, Mrs. Matt Morris. She was visiting her other daughter in Indianola at the time of her death.

Mrs. Bishop is survived by two sons, M. G. Bishop of Chicago, Ill., and S. A. Bishop of Milwaukee, Wis.; two daughters, Mrs. Charlotte B. Augustine of Indianola and Mrs. Elizabeth B. Morris of Creston; and three brothers, Will A. Graham of Spokane, Wash., Walter N. Graham of Oil City, La., and Roscoe Graham of Des Moines.

She was a member of the Orient Congregational church. She was a past matron and 50 year member of the Eastern Star at Orient. She also had been a member of the OWL club and the Monday evening club in Orient for many years.

Mrs. C. O. Bishop’s Funeral Today

Funeral services for Mrs. C. O. (Jennie) Bishop, who died Wednesday morning, were held at 2 p. m. today at the Orient Congregational church. Rev. Penn Chambers officiated. Burial was in the Orient cemetery. Music was by Mrs. Forest proctor, organist, and Frank Augustine who sang “Whispering Hope” and “The Lord’s Prayer”. Pallbearers were Wyman Graham, Graham Jacobson, Newell Jacobson, Floyd Beck, Paul Johnson, and Charles Nelson, all nephews.

JENNIE G. BISHOP

Jennie G. Bishop was born near Macksburg, Iowa, on Feb. 9, 1883. She was the daughter of Samuel A. and Elizabeth Thompson Graham. She lived near Macksburg until 1887 when they moved to Orient, Iowa.

On June 22, 1904 she was untied in marriage to Claude O. Bishop and for 54 years they walked side by side, sharing life’s joys and sorrows. She lived a faithful, consistent Christian life, loved by her family, and her many friends.

She was a member of the Orient Plymouth Congregational church, the Owl Club, Monday Evening Club, and a Past Matron and 50 year member of the O. E. S.

Mrs. Bishop passed away on Wednesday, March 11, 1959, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Pete Augustine, at Indianola, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Claude, and leaves to mourn their loss, two sons, Myrle G. Bishop of Chicago, Ill. and S. Allison Bishop of Milwaukee, Wis., two daughters, Charlotte B. Augustine of Indianola, Iowa, and Elizabeth B. Morris of Creston, Iowa, and three brothers, Will A. Graham of Spokane, Wash., Walter N. Graham of Oil City, La., and Roscoe Graham of Des Moines, Iowa; 10 grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

And so ends the earthly life of a good woman but her memory will live on in the hearts of friends and dear ones.

“Thou shalt come to thy grave in a full age, like as a shock of corn cometh in in his season.”

Funeral services were held at the Plymouth Congregational church at Orient with Rev. Penn Chambers officiating. Burial was in the Orient cemetery.

Pallbearers were Graham Jacobson, Newell Jacobson, Wyman Graham, Floyd Beck, Paul Johnson and Charles Nelson.
