Held Services Civil War Veteran Yesterday Morning

William F. Graham, aged Winterset resident, died at his home on North First street, Monday morning, July 29th, at the age of 90 years. He had been ill for several months and death came about five o’clock Monday morning.

Mr. and Mrs. Graham had lived in Winterset, the past five years. For forty years previous to that they had lived in Chariton, where he was an engineer on the Burlington railroad.

The Rev. R. C. Cully, pastor of the First Presbyterian church conducted short funeral services at the Ramsey-Richards funeral home, Wednesday morning, at ten o’clock and the body was taken to Chariton for burial. Members of the American legion had charge of the burial services.

The deceased was a son of the Rev. and Mrs. John Graham. He was born in Butler county, Ohio, May 15, 1845. He attended Monmouth college in Monmouth, Illinois, until his junior year, when he enlisted in Co. D. 138th infantry of Illinois and served in the Union army in the civil war. On May 4, 1866 he was married to Miss Mary M. Graham in Briggsville, Illinois. They were the parents of eight children, seven of whom with the mother survive. A son William died in 1905. In addition to Mrs. Graham he leaves two sons and five daughters: C. M. Graham of LeGrande, Oregon, Fred Graham of Cresco, Mrs. Ada Mauk of Council Bluffs, Mrs. Nell Wetzel of Ft. Collins, Colorado, Mrs. Jane Isaacson of Rock Falls and Mrs. Lela G. Crossley and Mrs. Lulu G. Paton of Winterset.

William F. Graham

William F. Graham, Civil War veteran, and for many years a resident of Chariton, died at his home in Winterset, Iowa, on Monday morning, July 29, 1935, at the age of 90 years, 2 months and 14 days.

Funeral rites, conducted by Rev. R. C. Cully, of the Presbyterian church, were held at the Ramsey-Richards funeral home in Winterset on Wednesday morning at ten o'clock, and the body was brought to this city where burial took place in the Chariton cemetery Wednesday afternoon, a full military service being conducted at the grave by the members of the American Legion.

William F. Graham, son of Rev. and Mrs. John Graham, was born in Butler county, Ohio, on May 15, 1845. He attended Monmouth college in Monmouth, Ill., until his junior year when he enlisted in Company D, 138th Infantry of Illinois, and served in the Union army during the Civil War.

On May 4, 1866, he was married to Miss Mary M. Graham in Biggsville, Ill. They were the parents of eight children, seven of whom, with Mrs. Graham survive.

Mr. and Mrs. Graham lived in Chariton for forty years, moving to Winterset about five years ago. For many years he was employed as an engineer on the Burlington Railroad.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Graham leaves two sons and five daughters, C. M. Graham, of La Grande, Oregon; Fred Graham, of Cresco, Iowa; Mrs. Adda Mauk, of Council Bluffs; Mrs. Nelle Wetzel, of Fort Collins, Colo.; Mrs. Jane Isaacson, of Rock Falls, Iowa; Mrs. Lela Crossley and Mrs. Lula Paton, both of Winterset, Iowa.
