ORANGE CITY, Iowa—Cecil F. Keith, 88, of Orange City died Friday, Oct. 20, 2006, at Orange City Area Health System Long Term Care Facility.

Services will be 1:30 p.m. Monday at Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City. Burial will be in West Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will be after 3 p.m. Sunday, with the family present 4 to 6 p.m., at the funeral home.

ORANGE CITY, Iowa – Cecil Keith, 88, of Orange City passed way Friday, Oct. 20, 2006, at Orange City Area Health System Long Term Care Facility.

Services will be 1:30 p.m. Monday at Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City, with the Rev. Dr. Perry DeGroot and Mr. Hurbert Schuller officiating. Interment will be in West Lawn Cemetery at Orange City. Visitation will be after 3 p.m. today, with the family present 4 to 6 p.m., at the funeral home.

Cecil Frank was born on June 9, 1918, in rural Winterset, Iowa, the son of Thomas Benton and Lillie Pearl (Beard) Keith. He was raised at Jefferson, where he attended school. He then served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

On Dec. 10, 1945, he married Jennie Zwiers in Troy, Kan. They lived in Sioux Center until 1951, when they moved to Orange City, where he was a lineman for Rural Electric Association. After being electrically shocked, he was still able to climb poles for awhile. However, when his feet deteriorated, he was made materials manager and maintenance man for the R.E.C.

Mrs. Keith passed away on April 28, 1987, in Orange City.

On Aug. 1, 2005, Mr. Keith became a resident of Pioneer Memorial Home in Orange City. On Feb. 20, 2006, he transferred to the Long Term Care Facility.

In earlier years, he enjoyed reading, but after his eyesight failed, he listened to tape recordings of books. He also liked to watch television, especially NASCAR races, baseball games and rodeos.

Survivors include nine children, Larry Keith and his wife, Becki of Maurice, Iowa, Lynnette, and her husband, Mark Schuller of Orange City, Harv Keith and his wife, Steph of Hudson, S.D., Les Keith and his wife, Nancy of Hot Springs, S.D., Glenda and her husband, Roger Bailey of Iowa Falls, Iowa, Margene and her husband, Jim Vander Wilt of Littleton, Colo., Patti and her husband, Ron DeGroot of Brandon, S.D., Deb and her husband, Chris Semmler of Parkston, S.D., and Terri Harper of Springdale, Ark.; a daughter-in-law, Linda Keith of Santa Anna, Calif.; 24 grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a son, Dennis; a stepgrandson; a great-grandson; a sister; five brothers; and his companion in later life, Marie Coover.

Memorials may be directed to the Orange City Area Home Health and Hospice.
