Mattie T. Clampitt, sister of H. T. and D. F. Clampitt, was born in Lawrence county, Ind., March 23, 1851. Came to Madison county, Ia., with her parents in 1854. She was married to J. W. Henry, February 25th, 1873, and came to Guthrie county in 1885. Died in Pasadena, California, April 20th, 1906, aged 55 years and twenty eight days.

Sister Henry was one of God’s noble women. It can be truly said of her that she came up through great tributation having washed her robes and made them white in the blood of the lamb. She has been a great sufferer for the past four years. At the age of thirteen, she was called to do the household duties in her fathers family and to care for an invalid mother for a period of eight years. This strain seemed too much for her strength and left her rather enfeebled. No children were born to her, but she has become as a mother to three children, one being a half sister, another an adopted son.

She united with the church of Christ in 1880, and since that time she has been as true to her Savior as the needle to the pole. She was one of the charter members of the Monteith church and until stricken by her last sickness, was always present at every service of the church. Her home was always open to the stranger, and there her friends and neighbors delighted to gather, and spend an hour that always brightens our journey here. Hers was a sunny nature always looking on the bright side of life. She had a forgiving spirit and was strong in the faith unto death.

Farewell dear sister until we meet at the Saviors feet, where there will be no more sickness, no more death, no more good by, but one happy, happy reunion in the presence of our Savior and our God.

The funeral services were held in Monteith, Sunday, April 29, 1906. The body was laid in the Monteith cemetery to await the final summons from the Father.

On behalf of the bereaved, we wish to thank the many friends for their kindness shown in this hour of bereavement. S. R. Mc Clure, Pastor.
