GILLETT GROVE, Iowa, June 9
Special to The New Herald

Funeral rites were held Monday afternoon for Jonathan M. Shaw, age 71 years, a resident of Clark county for over twelve years, who passed away Saturday, June 6, 1931, ath his home at Gillett Grove, Iowa. Death occurred Saturday morning at four-thirty o’clock and followed an illness of several years. He was taken seriously ill two weeks ago after returning from a visit with his daughter at Perry, Iowa. Services were held at two o’clock at the Union church near Murray, Iowa, and burial was made in the church cemetery.

Jonathan M. Shaw was born near Muncie, Indiana, June 15, 1860. He was united in marriage to Amanda Mae Lyons June 13, 1885, and to this union were born eight children. The children that survive him are Harry of Gillett Grove, Wilbert of Guthrie Center, Theodore of Minneapolis, Mrs. Bert Smith of Sigourney, Mrs. Ray McLuen of Perry and Miss Rose Shaw of Guthrie Center. An infant daughter, Marie preceded him in death twenty seven years ago.

For many years the family lived in southern Iowa, residing at different points throughout the state. In 1924, Mr. Shaw’s health seemed to fail and they moved from Storm Lake to Perry where they resided, prior to moving to Sioux City where they made their home with a son, Theodore. In the spring of 1929 they moved to Gillett Grove where they have since made their home.

Mr. Shaw was a member of the Methodist church and was a faithful and loyal attendant at the church services when his health permitted, his faith and trust in the Master being the one thing that shone throughout his life and especially in his declining years.

His wife, sons and daughters, and a host of other relatives and friends mourn his death.
