Funeral services for Mrs. Rebecca J. DeLong, well known Clarke county resident, were held Sunday afternoon at the Church of Christ conducted by Rev. F. C. McCallon, assisted by Rev. David Arnold of the Methodist Protestant church. Burial was made in Maple Hill cemetery.

Mrs. DeLong passed away Friday, September 16, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Ira Lonnecker at Creston.

Rebecca Jane, daughter of John Wesley and Peree Bradshaw, was born April 10, 1856 at Eddyville, Mahaska county, Iowa, and at her passing had attained the splendid age of 82 years, five months and six days.

On January 29, 1874, she was united in marriage with Jasper N. DeLong at Truro, Madison county, and spent the greater portion of her married life in Clarke county.

This union was blessed with ten children, Cora Roy of Des Moines, Peree Stemen, deceased of Edgerly, South Dakota, Hannah Hart, deceased of Osceola; Ada Andrews, deceased of Deadwood, So. Dakota; Arthur, deceased of Osceola; Pearl DeLong, Mrs. Ednah Karr, Mrs. Nina Williams of Osceola; and Mrs. Bradie Lonnecker of Creston and Denzil who died in youth.

Besides her children she leaves to mourn her death, Mrs. Dill Collins and Mrs. Florence Burt of Truro, besides nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

Early in life she united with the Christian church, maintained her membership and active interest until her passing to a well-earned reward. She was always faithful, kindly, thoughtful of others and always alertly interested in all that was fine and good, having made the world better by her passing through. A faithful, loving, devoted wife and mother; a true and helpful friend; a real servant of the Master.

Her life was blessed not only by her children but by 14 grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren who survive her and cherish happy memories of her association.
