Life of Local Woman

An elderly Osceola woman died in Clarke County Hospital Thursday afternoon, July 17, shortly after being struck by a pickup truck on South Main Street.

It was the first pedestrian traffic fatality in Osceola since 1972.

Marie Miller, 88, was crossing South Main near the Christian Church shortly before 1 p.m. when she was struck by a northbound pickup, driven by David Donaldson, 40 of Osceola. According to the report of the Iowa Highway Patrol, Donaldson was unable to stop his truck which struck Mrs. Miller, who was crossing the street from east to west to attend a meeting at the Christian Church.

She was taken by ambulance to the Clarke County Hospital where she died a short time later. State troopers are assisting the Osceola Police Department with technical aspects of the investigation; both agencies had representatives at the scene of the accident. No charges had been filed at press time.
