Rev. W. B. Pond, of Lucas, died in the hospital in Clarinda on Monday, March 29, 1909, after an illness of several weeks. About five week previous he underwent an operation at the Methodist Hospital in Des Moines for appendicitis, from which he never recovered. The remains were brought to Lucas where funeral services were held at the Methodist Church on Thursday morning at 10 o’clock, after which interment took place in the cemetery at Goshen. The services were conducted by Rev. H. S. Mitchell, of Gilman City, Mo., where Rev. Pond ordained several years ago, and at that time he requested that his funeral be conducted by Rev. Mitchell.

William B. Pond was born in Decatur County, Iowa, near Garden Grove, in 1859. He lived there until about nineteen years ago when he moved to Lucas. He was married at Garden Grove to Miss Dora Adams, who survives him. They are the parents of six children, five of whom are living. They are Clyde, of Ottumwa, John, Ethel, Willy and Eva Lucas. Rev. Pond had been a minister of the Christian Union Church for twenty-five years. He led an exemplary life and his demise is mourned by all who knew him. – Chariton Herald
