Father Henry Stahley was born in York county, Pennsylvania, October 3, 1821, and died in Letts, Iowa, November 26, 1898, aged 77 years, 1 month, and 23 days. The cause of his death was paralysis. He moved to Louisa county, Iowa in 1855 and settled near Grandview, and helped to build the first Evangelical church west of the Mississippi river. He was converted in his youth and united with the church, remaining a faithful christian until death.

About five years ago he received a stroke of paralysis and another February 14, 1898 and the last stroke November 35, causing his death on Saturday. He was married to Eliza Heindel July 9, 1843. This union was blessed with ten children, three of whom have preceded him in death. Father, Stahley leaves a bereaved widow, seven children, and grandchildren, and a brother, Reverend Stahley, of Forreston, Ill.

The funeral services were held at Fairview, November 20, 1998, Rev. Chas. S. Lang, officiating, Reverend Beyen, of Letts, assisting. The services were largely attended by his old friends and acquaintances.
