Mrs. Harriet Briggs Curtis died at the home of her son, E. S. Curtis, of Concord township, Saturday evening, December 9, 1905 at 7 o'clock, after an illness of many months. She was born in Lincolnshire, England, October 13, 183? and came with her parents to America when she was thirteen years of age, settling first in Constantine, Mich. On the 11 of March, 1852 she was married to S. C. Curtis at Three Rivers, Mich. To them were born eight children of which four survive to mourn the loss of a loving mother. The surviving children are E. S. of Concord township, Mrs. Francis M. Hull of Oklahoma City, W. L. of Columbus Junction and T. J. L. of Concord township.

In 1855 Mrs. Curtis came with her family to Chilicothe, Ill where her husband was engaged in railroad work. They came to Muscatine in ? and two years later to Letts. In ? Mr. Curtis gave up railroad workers bought a farm, which is a part of the Brockway farm, which was their home until 1861, when he sold that farm and bought the home in Concord township now owned by the son, E. S. Curtis. There they lived until 1890, when they retired from the farm and came to Columbus Junction. Here they built a pretty cottage and here Mr. Curtis died February 12, 1894. This continued to be the home of Mrs. Curtis until last spring, when failing health induced her to give up her home and go to her children, who cared for her during the rest of her life.

Mrs. Curtis was a faithful, life long Methodist and an earnest Christian. Short services were held at the home Tuesday morning, December 12, conducted by her pastor, Rev. Kendrick and services were held in the M. E church at Letts at 11 o'clock, conducted by Rev. Chamberlin and she was tenderly laid to rest in the Letts cemetery
