Samuel Barringer, notice of whose death has published last week, was one of our country's earliest settlers, having emigrated to Iowa, coming to his county in 1838. He was born in what afterwards became Meigs county, Ohio, December 29, 1812. A few years subsequent he moved with his parents across the Ohio river into the present state of West Virginia. here he was united in marriage, to Miss Eleanor Rowley, who was a native of Virginia and four years his junior in 1833. With her he came to Iowa five years later and this state became his home up to the time of his death. Mrs. Barringer died in April, 1869. To them were born six children three of whom, W. J. and Samuel E, of this place and Mrs. Capt. McCoy, of Columbus City, survive. His last sickness was of two month's duration. The funeral services were conduced by Rev. Williams. He was a man with many friends and no enemies.
