Ruth was born in Cedar Rapids on November 27th 1981 to Bob and Monica Gleason. She graduated from Marion High School in 1999 and Upper Iowa University with a degree in criminal justice in 2011. She went on to work as a secret shopper, security guard, and most recently a correctional officer, hostage negotiator and staff support service at Iowa Medical and classification center. Ruth’s proudest accomplishment was raising her three daughters. Her children were born two years apart Emma in 2000, Hannah 2002 and Abigail 2004.
Ruth was a devoted mother and daughter among many other things. She will be remembered for her love, selflessness and open-heart. She is known for her creativity especially when it came to her baking skills. She had a cake designed for any occasion that would rival even the best baker in town. Ruth had a green thumb and loved to spend time in her garden.
Everyone in Ruth’s life knew how hardworking, capable, and genuine she was. She never gave excuses for why something could not be done. No matter how bad a situation was she never changed her outlook. God always had a plan and she knew everything would work out for the better.
Ruth will forever hold a special place in all the lives she touched. She will never be forgotten and especially all her incessant whistling that you could hear from down the street that everyone would love to hear just once more.
All are welcome to come and celebrate Ruth’s life.
