William C. Rowland (1930-2022)

William C. Rowland, age 91, of North Mankato, formerly of Marion, was welcomed into heaven on May 6, 2022, at Ecumen Pathstone Living Community in North Mankato. Services: Noon, Friday, May 13, 2022, at Teahen Funeral Home. Friends may visit with the family Friday after 11 a.m. Burial: Cedar Memorial Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.

William was born on May 11, 1930, in Fulton, IL to Clifford and Margaret Rowland. William graduated from Fulton High School. He received offers from several Major League Baseball organizations. In 1951, the New York Giants offered him a tryout at their spring training camp in Stanford, Florida. However, William had to decline the offer due to being drafted by the United States Air Force, during the Korean War. After being honorably discharged, he started work at Montgomery Wards in Clinton, IA. William was united in marriage to Barbara Ann Lawrence on January 22, 1967, in Clinton. William relocated to Cedar Rapids, and retired from Kmart after 25 years of service. William was also a member of the Oakland Church of Nazarene and was part of the choir. He was a resident ambassador at Monarch Meadows with Barb, the love of his life.
William is survived by his children, Bruce (Pam) Rowland of Petersburg, MI, Bambi (Dean) Wuebker of North Mankato, Kathy Green of Garland, TX, and Lindy Rowland of Mesquite, TX; grandchildren, Crystal Rowland of Woodstock, GA, Sarah Rowland of Macy, NE, Alicia Rowland of Petersburg, MI, Austin (Alyssa) Wuebker of North Mankato, Caylee Ng of North Mankato, Morgan (Dawn) Wuebker of St. Peter, MN, Andrea (Levi) Turner of Wylie, TX, and Gary (Ariana) Green of Forney, TX; great-grandchildren, Quinn, Grayson, Weslyn, Cora, Jimi, Johanna, Arissa, Kenley, Juliana, and Jayden; sister, Madeline (Bob) Tillema of CA; brother, Robert Rowland of Fulton, IL; and sister-in-law, Joan Lawrence of Camanche, IA.
He was preceded in death by his wife and best friend Barbara Rowland; daughter, Vicky; parents, Clifford and Margaret; father and mother in-law Floyd and Iva Lawrence; brother, Howard Rowland; three brothers-in-law Pete Lawrence, Robert Lawrence, Harold Lawrence; and sisters-in-law Bonnie Foley and Grace Rowland.
Williamís family would like to thank the staff with Mayo Hospice and Ecumen Pathstone Living Community for the support and loving care they provided.
William was a huge Iowa Hawkeye fan. Please feel free to join the family in honoring William by wearing black and gold or Iowa Hawkeye spirit wear.
Instead of flowers, memorials are preferred to Mayo Hospice or Ecumen Pathstone Living Community.
