28 October 1965 - The Tipton Conservative

The 20-month-old son of Mr. and Mrs. William Hamilton of Cedar Rapids, grandson of Mrs. Freida Hamilton of Tipton, was accidentally drowned Oct. 17.

Cassim Hamilton was pronounced dead on arrival at Mercy hospital in Cedar Rapids after he drowned in the bathtub at the home of his parents. Mrs. Hamilton told Cedar Rapids police that she had put the boy in the tub for his bath after her husband had gone to the grocery store.

She answered the phone when her husband called back to check on some items on the shopping list. While holding the phone, Mrs. Hamilton told her daughter, Lila, 2 years and 8 months, to check on Cassim. She returned, saying that he "had gone". Mrs. Hamilton found the boy lying in the water. She took him to the home of a neighbor, where mouth to mouth resuscitation was given until an ambulance arrived.

Private graveside services were held Oct. 19 at the Moslem cemetery.

Cassim Hamilton was born Feb. 22, 1964, in Cedar Rapids. Surviving, in addition to his parents are 2 brothers, William Jr. and Mark Allen; a sister, Lila Elizabeth; and the grandparents, Mrs. Frieda Hamilton, Tipton and Mr. and Mrs. H. K. Igram, Cedar Rapids.
