Dec. 1, 1897; Marion Register, p 5
William Jones was born in Ruabon Denbighshire, Wales, February 28, 1832. He died Sunday night November 20, 1897, at 11 o'clock in Marion, Iowa.
He grew to manhood on his father's farm, a steady and industrious boy. Realizing his need of a Saviour he identified himself with God's children by joining the Wesleyan Methodist church in 1858 at the age of 26. At the age of 28, the 9th of February, 1859, he was united in marriage to Miss Mary Williams of St. Asaph, Wales.
There were ten children born to them, five boys and five girls, seven of whom survive with the wife to mourn the loss of a kind father and loving husband. In 1871 he removed with his family to Millon, Cumberland county, England.
In 1888 believing that America offered a better place and chance too, in life for his growing children, he bid his old home goodbye and with his faithful wife they turned their faces towards a new land, not thinking of themselves but desirous of doing the best they could for their children. They came direct to center Junction, this state, and from there five weeks later they removed to Marion where they have since resided, only moving to the place just west of the city where he died, last April.
He was taken down with his last sickness October 16th and died from cerebral hemorrhage.
Mr. Jones was a man of unquestioned integrity and honesty. He had a very tender heart and no one was turned away who went to him for sympathy.
He lived out his early Christian profession to the last although not becoming identified with any church in this country.
The funeral took place from the Christian church Tuesday November 23d at 2:30 p.m., Eld. Seaton conducting the service, after which the body was interred in Oak Shade cemetery in the family lot.
