From the Cedar Rapids Standard, Thursday November 11, 1886
Obituary.
BUNTING==Died, October 16th, 1886, at Sloan, Iowa, John W. Bunting, aged forty-four years.
Mr. John W. Bunting was born in Zanesville, Ohio, in February, 1842, and came to Linn county with his parents in 1856, where he resided until 1882. In 1871 he was married to Miss Kate Cottrell, of Marion, and estimable and accomplished lady. In 1882 they moved to Mapleton, Iowa, and resided there four years. In September last another move was made to Sloan, since that place afforded unusually good business opportunities. For some years Mr. Bunting had suffered with poor health, but his sickness did not attain an alarming stage till the last week when he declined rapidly. The deceased was highly respected in every community in which he resided and always proved a kind husband and wise father. The closing scenes of his life were touching in the extreme. It seemed hard to leave his anguished wife and wall whom he held so dear, but the end was peaceful and he died in full confidence of a happy hereafter. The funeral took place at his father's house four miles north of Marion, his old home.
[A large and excellent obituary was necessarily omitted from lack of space. --Ed.]
