Phillip Bunting, 89, Pioneer of Linn Co., Dies
Phillip Bunting, 89, a lifelong Linn county resident passed away at 11 a.m. Monday, August 1, 1955 at a Cedar Rapids hospital following a long illness. He was born July 29, 1866 on a farm north of Marion the son of early Linn County setters, Eli and Rosa Linda P. Cline Bunting. Married December 21, 1887 at Marion to Nancy Ellen Burns he farmed the home farm until moving to Marion in 1905. He lived at 310 Seventh Avenue and was in the contracting business for many years. He also served Marion for some time as Street Commissioner. In November 1950 he and Mrs. Bunting moved to Cedar Rapids to make their home with their daughter, Mrs. Ben Z. Moats at 1927 Mt. Vernon Ave., S.E. Mrs. Bunting passed away there on June 21, 1951 and Mr. Bunting continued making his home there until moving to a nursing home one month ago.
Mr. Bunting was a Past Noble Grand of Osceola Lodge No. 18, I.O.O.F. and also served the lodge as Chaplin. He was also a member of Grove City Rebekah Lodge No. 35. Surviving in addition to his daughter are two sons: Neal and John W. Bunting of Marion. A son, Robert L. Bunting, preceeded him in death. Also surviving are three grandchildren: Mrs. Donald Smith, Waterloo and John W. and Robert E. Bunting of Marion and a great grandson, James Phillip Bunting of Marion. A granddaughter, Nancy Jane Bunting, passed away several years ago.
Memorial services were conducted at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Murdoch Chapel by the Rev. Charles Moore and Osceola Lodge No. 18, I.O.O.F. Interment was in Oak Shade Cemetery.
