Mrs. Dora Granger, Linn Pioneer, Dead
Mrs. Dora Granger, widow of Earl Granger and a Linn county pioneer, died at 1:15 a.m. Tuesday at the fmaily home, 970 Tenth street, following a heart attack suffered at 9:30 p.m. Monday. Mrs. Granger has been a partial invalid for several years. Monday, feeling better than usual, she had prepared supper for herself and son, Alfred, who made his home with her.
As Dora Krouse she was born in Germany Jan. 33[sic], 1850, to Mr. and Mrs. Mathias Krouse. She came to Pennsylvania with her parents at the age of 4. Two years later the family moved to a farm between Robins and Toddville, Ia., where she lived until her marriage to Earl Granger, Feb. 28, 1872. SHe had lived in the present family home since 1873.
Mrs. Granger joined the Methodist church in her youth, was active in the work of its societies, and taught in the Sunday school for many years. She was a member of the Woman's Christian Temperance Union and a charter member of the Reading Circle.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1908, two daughters, Louise and Mable, and two sons, Wesley and an infant. Surviving are two sons, Arthur E. and Alfred, two grandchildren, Mary Ellen and John Granger, all of Marion, and three brothers, Henry, Charles and Frank of Toddville.
Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. in the Yocom chapel. The Rev. E.T. Gough of the Methodist church will officiate and burial will be in the family lot in Oak Shade.
