The Marion Pilot Thursday May 15, 1902
John B. Ives.
John B. Ives was born at Wallingford, Conn., Aug. 21, 1824, and died May 8, 1902, after a long illness. His parents were Elihu and Rachel B. Ives, to whom were born five sons and two daughters. In 1837 the family moved to a farm near Bloomington, Ill., and two years later to Marion township, southeast of this city.
In 1880 he removed to this city and for upwards of two years engaged in the grocery business with his brother George. In 1851 he was united to Hannah Jane Wallace, who with an only son mourns his loss.
Mr. Ives was a good neighbor and citizen; was respected for his sterling character; a member of the Baptist church for about fifty years, and served as deacon for years.
For about six years his health has been feeble and at times he suffered great pain. Increasing deafness deprived him of much pleasure. He felt prepared and was desirous to be delivered from pain. A large number of friends and relatives met last Saturday at his late residence to pay their respects. The funeral service was conducted by Rev. F.M. Smith of the Baptist church, assisted by Rev. W.H. Reynolds of the Presbyterian church.
