The Marion Pilot Thursday September 19, 1895
Mrs. Downs (formerly Mrs. Elmyrrh Howard) died at Urbanna[sic] Benton County, last Sunday, and the remains were buried in the Marion cemetery on Tuesday alongside her first husband and several children who preceeded[sic] her. One son, Chas. H. Howard, of Independence, is the sole [missing line] and Mrs. Howard were among the first settlers of Marion, afterwards removing to Vinton where they kept the popular Howard house for years. All the family with the exception of the son surviving are buried in the Marion cemetery, where a fine monument is erected and the grounds carefully kept for many years.
