Arlene W. VanAusdall

Arlene W. VanAusdall, 84, of Keokuk, died on Tuesday, April 19, (2005) at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City.

She was born on February 28, 1921, in Yarmouth, the daughter of Edger and Daisy Sams Walker. She married Kenneth Shutt on April 2, 1944. He preceded her in death on Dec. 14, 1978. She married C. Max Laubersheimer on Aug. 10, 1985. He preceded her in death on July 6, 1994. On March 12, 1995, she married Howard VanAusdall. She graduated from Mediapolis Consolidated Schools in Mediapolis in 1938. She attended business school in Denver, Colo. She operated Shutts Radiator-Auto Repair and Sales with her first husband Kenneth. She was a member of the Bethel Bible Church in Argyle.

Survivors include two daughters, Karen Hempen of Argyle, and Janet (husband Vernon) Rosenau of Elyria, Ohio; one son, Douglas (wife Mary) Shutt of Aurora, Colo.; two son-in-laws, Ron Ellison of Greenville, S.C., and Roger Hempen, Keokuk; one step-daughter, Patricia Welsh of Bourbonnais, Ill.; one stepson, John (wife Marian) VanAusdall of Spring Branch, Texas; 13 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Kenneth Walker of Prescott, Ariz., and Randall (wife Barb) Walker of Burlington; one sister, Wanda Lane of Mediapolis and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by two husbands and one daughter.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the funeral home. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, April 23, at Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk, with Pastor Clegguart Mitchell and Rev. Vernon Rosenau officiating. Private family burial will be in the Keokuk National Cemetery in Keokuk at a later date.
