Agnes Caroline Kruse 1921-2013

Agnes Caroline Kruse, 91, of Mount Pleasant died Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2013, at Park Place Elder Living.

Born July 16, 1921, in Fort Madison, she was the daughter of Edward and Adelaide Bendlage Mansheim. On April 22, 1941, she married Lawrence Kruse in Fort Madison. He died Jan. 22, 1998.

Mrs. Kruse was a homemaker, enjoyed farm life and maintained a vegetable and flower garden. She loved to cook, bake, can and freeze her vegetable harvest for her family. She attended Scrub Oak and Sawyer country schools.

She was a member of St. John's Catholic Church in Houghton, the Altar and Rosary Society and Daughters of Isabella. She belonged to a sewing and quilting group in Houghton, and she and Lawrence square danced.

She was an avid card player and an enthusiastic bidder up to the last weeks of her life. She liked her bell collection, loved a good joke and would tease, often breaking into giggles and laughter. She will be remembered for her steadfastness, faith and perseverance.

Survivors include four sons, Wayne Kruse of La Canada, Calif., Larry Kruse of Donnellson, Vic Kruse of Salem and Chuck Kruse of Cypress, Texas; two daughters, Margie Bodensteiner of Marion and Ginny Roland of Bastrop, Texas; 16 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Evelyn Westfall of Fort Madison and Alice Snyder of Burlington; and one brother, Ed Mansheim of Fort Madison.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, one daughter, one grandson, one sister and one brother.

Visitation will be from noon to 7 p.m. Friday at Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel in Mount Pleasant. The rosary will be at 3 p.m. A Christian Vigil will be at 7 p.m.

The memorial Mass for Mrs. Kruse will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. John's Catholic Church, with the Rev. Gary Beckman as celebrant. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery, Houghton.

A memorial has been established.
