Frank J. Nemmers was born July 26th, 1893 at Bancroft, Iowa and died October 1st, 1918 at Camp Gordon, Georgia. At the time of his death he was 25 years, 2 months and 5 days old. He left Bancroft to join the army on July 26th, 1918 and went from Algona, Iowa, with the largest contingent of drafted men that has left this county since the great war began, in training for Camp Gordon, where he remained until his death, which resulted from pneumonia. Frank graduated from the St. John's parochial high school and after finishing his course took an interest in the hardware store with his father and was so engaged until joining the army. He was ever a loving son, helpful to his parents and kind to his friends. He was industrious and frugal and a life long member of the Catholic church. When in high school he was a member of the baseball team and was quite popular as a pitcher. After engaging in business he dropped his athletic training but was always interested in the games and sports so much enjoyed by others. His parents have lost a loving and trustworthy son, Bancroft has lost one of her best young business men and one that was always interested in the upbuilding and uplifting of the community.
