OLD RESIDENT DEAD.
Abram Wolfe, Former Owner of the
Northwestern Hotel, Dies at Soldiers'
Home at Age of 93.

News of Abram Wolfe's death reached Algona last week. Mr. Wolfe was a well known Algona resident for many years and died August first at the age of ninety three years and nine months. He was born in Alayo, New York, in 1826. When he was still quite a young man, he came to Algona and followed his trade as a carpenter. Mr. Wolfe was the contractor in charge of building the Algona Congregational Church. He also erected the Northwestern hotel, of which he was the proprietor for a number of years. It was while he was engaged in the hotel business that his wife passed away. Some time after his wife's death, Mr. Wolfe went to live with his daughter, Mrs. G. M. Merriam at Sheldon. About three years ago Mrs. Merriam’s health failed and Mr. Wolfe than was compelled to move to the Iowa Soldiers Home at Marshalltown where he remained until his death . Mr. Wolfe's death was caused by old age and a cancer of the face. G. M. Merriam, a locomotive engineer on the C. M. & St. P. railroad, accompanied the remains to Algona on Monday. The funeral services were conducted at the chapel in Riverview cemetery at 2:30 Monday afternoon, Rev. Southgate officiating.
