Algona residents were saddened last week when they learned of the unexpected death of Garry Davis, 38, well known Algona contractor. Mr. Davis suddenly became ill at his home south of Algona last Tuesday and was taken to the Kossuth County Hospital. He was transferred by ambulance on Wednesday to St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester where he died Thursday afternoon.

Funeral service for Mr. Davis will be at 1:30 p.m. today (Monday) in the First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Walter F. Mock officiating. Burial is in Laurel Hill Cemetery at Irvington, the Geilenfeld-Schaaf-McCullough Funeral Service of Algona in charge of the arrangements.

Casket bearers are William Robinson, Jeff Higgs, Mark T. McGuire, Chuck Behr, John Groen and Joe Heinen.

Honorary bearers are John Price and Robert Ruhnke.

Garry Dean, son of B.O. and Doris Colwell Davis, was born at Abingdon, Ia., on June 15, 1941. He came to the Irvington area with his parents in 1943 and received his elementary education in the Irvington schools. Garry graduated from Algona High School in 1959. During high school he was active in football and wrestling and outstanding in track.

He served with the army from 1963 until his discharge in 1967 and on Nov. 17, 1968 he married to Linda Hastead at Emmetsburg.

Mr. Davis learned the carpenter trade from his father and after some time in the business, started his own construction firm last year.

He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church at Algona where he formerly was on the Board of Trustees and bowled with the Tuesday night men's league on the Bill's Posse team.

He is survived by his wife, and three daughters; Gale, 12; Paula, 10 and six-year-old Kathy.

His mother Doris Davis of Irvington; two brothers and a sister also survive; Darrel, Algona; Dennis, Hampton, Ill.; and Janet, Mrs. Richard Fellin, Mason City. His father died Nov. 28, 1976.

Visitation for relatives and friends was after 7 p.m. Saturday at the Geilenfeld-Schaaf-McCullough Funeral Home.
