Biography reproduced from page 392 of the History of Kossuth and Humboldt Counties, Iowa published in 1884:

J. K. Fill, merchant tailor, was born in Bavaria, Germany, Jan. 22, 1811. Here he learned the trade of tailor in the shop of his father, at the age of fourteen years, serving three years’ apprenticeship. In 1838 he emigrated to America, locating in Baltimore. He remained in Baltimore a few years, and then removed to Dauphin Co., Penn. In 1853 he removed to Ogle Co., Ill., remaining there until 1860, when he came to Kossuth eounty and settled on a farm in Irvington township. While running his farm he again engaged in his present business. In 1873 he removed his family to Algona, where they have since resided. He was united in marriage, in 1843, in Dauphin Co., Penn., with Eliza J. Price. By this union there were eight children. Mr. Fill is a republican politically. He enlisted in company F, 2d Iowa Cavalry, and participate in many engagements.
