Biography reproduced from page 424 of the History of Kossuth and Humboldt Counties, Iowa published in 1884:

James Henderson, Sr., was born Oct. 23, 1814, in Delaware Co., N. Y. He lived there forty years, then moved to Trumbull Co., Ohio, making this his home eight years. Going from there to Jackson Co., Iowa, where he spent two years and a half, he then came to Algona, where he has since resided. Mr. Henderson has probably done more than any other man in the interests of the county, such as building bridges, school houses, churches, etc., and has been township trustee a number of terms. He is a carpenter by trade, does job work, besides being engaged in farming. In politics he is a democrat.
