Biography reproduced from page 529 of the History of Kossuth and Humboldt Counties, Iowa published in 1884:

B. H. Winkie is a native of Germany, born March 19, 1855. When quite young he emigrated to America with his parents, locating in Dodge Co., Wis. In 1876, they removed to Kossuth Co., Iowa, purchasing eighty acres of land on section 7, township 96, range 29, this township. In 1881 they removed to Algona, where they now reside. The subject of this sketch now owns and resides on the old homestead. On Dec. 25, 1881, he was married to Ida Potter, a native of Illinois, born Jan. 8, 1859. Mr. Winkie has sixty acres of land under cultivation. He is now turning his attention to raising fine stock. He one of the most enterprising young farmers in the county. He is a republican.
