Biography reproduced from page 119 of Volume II of the History of Kossuth County written by Benjamin F. Reed and published in 1913:

Dr. Evert C. Hartman is one of the younger representatives of the medical profession in Algona but his years seem no bar to his progress nor to his success, for he has constantly worked his way upward and has proven his ability to cope with the intricate and complex problems that continually confront the physician. He was born July 12, 1882, in Winnebago, Illinois, his parents being U. G. and Harriet Virginia (Chapel) Hartman. The father has been a life-long resident of Illinois, where he is now following the occupation of farming.

After mastering the elementary branches of learning as a pupil in the public schools, Evert C. Hartman was given the opportunity of attending Northwestern University, of Chicago. He eagerly availed himself of this chance and, entering the medical department, prepared for the practice of medicine, being graduated therefrom in 1908, with the degree of M. D. He thoroughly mastered the branches that constitute the course and made such an excellent record as a student that he was appointed interne in the Northwestern Hospital, of Chicago, and thus added to his theoretical knowledge the broad and valuable experience gained from hospital practice. He continued as interne there until November, 1909, when he came to Algona and opened an office. Dr. Hartman has proved his capability in his care of many patients, coping successfully with disease even where it has laid strong hand upon its victim. He keeps in touch with the advanced thought and work of the profession through his reading of the best medical literature and through his membership in leading medical societies. He now belongs to the Kossuth County Medical Society, the Iowa State Medical Society and the American Medical Association.

In January, 1911, Dr. Hartman was united in marriage to Miss Faith G. Stair, a daughter of Henry Stair, who is a merchant of Brodhead, Wisconsin. Although Mr. and Mrs. Hartman have resided in Algona for only three years, they have during this period gained a wide acquaintance and enjoy the warm regard and friendship of many with whom they have come in contact.
