Biography reproduced from page 611 of Volume II of the History of Kossuth County written by Benjamin F. Reed and published in 1913:

Charles W. Patterson is one of the best known stock dealers in Kossuth county, Iowa. He has been aided in his operations by high commercial standards and has attained a degree of success which is entirely the result of his activity and ability. He is interested in the buying and shipping of stock in partnership with his father, who is one of the representative and enterprising citizens of his community. Mr. Patterson is a native son of Iowa and was born near Burt, in Kossuth county, upon his father’s farm on August 25, 1884. He was reared at home and educated in the public schools of his native section. He supplemented his primary courses by four years’ tuition at the Burt high school and for a period studied in a business college. After completing his studies he joined his father in the enterprise with which he is now connected. They have now acquired a place among the most extensive shippers of stock in Kossuth county and have built up a rapidly growing business upon foundations of honor and integrity.

Charles W. Patterson was united in marriage in Algona, Iowa, on August 30, 1910, to Miss Trella Gardner, who was born and reared in this city. She is a daughter of R. M. Gardner, one of the earliest settlers in Kossuth county and a prominent agriculturist of that section. Mr. and Mrs. Patterson reside in an attractive and up-to-date home in Burt, Iowa, and have many friends in social circles in this city. Mr. Patterson in his policies has always been careful and conservative and, in seeking success along honorable commercial lines, has built up his own prosperity and established a business enterprise which, since it deals with the most important industry in Kossuth county–agriculture--is influencing the growth and expansion of that section.
