Betty Lou Sheraden

Betty Lou Sheraden, 91, of Ollie, died Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2014, at Jefferson County Health Center in Fairfield.

A funeral is at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Packwood Christian Church, with the Rev. Frosty Van Vorst and the Carla Nelson officiating. Burial will be in Ollie Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Jefferson County Relay for Life or Prairie View United Methodist Church.

Mrs. Sheraden was born March 14, 1922, near South English in Keokuk County, the daughter of Clarence "Pat" and June Audrey Shipman Glandon. She married Alva Paul Sheraden July 24, 1943. She died June 14, 1980.

She attended school in the Webster area.

Following school, she worked various places. After marriage, she worked first at Downey's Prairie Home and Dugger's Prairie Home. She worked as a cook at Pekin school for five years.

Later she worked at Dickey's Prairie Home and lastly at Mike's Prairie Home.

She was a member of the United Methodist Women.

She was a 65-year member of the Royal Neighbors and one of the last members of the Jolly Janes Club.

She was a Popcorn Reader for 15 years and was attending the sewing club at Ollie Baptist Church until just before Christmas.

She loved to cook and bake and spent her life in the kitchen.

Survivors include one son, Alva Lee Sheraden of Packwood; two daughters, Donna Wolf of Packwood and Linna Ament and spouse Mike of Richland; eight grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; one sister, Phyllis Renner of Sigourney; and one brother, Robert Glandon of Washington.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Clyda Berry; two brothers, Lyle and Marvin Glandon; and one sister, Madge Gapen.

She was born Tuesday, March 14, 1922, near South English in Keokuk County, the daughter of Clarence "Pat" and June Aubrey Shipman Glandon.

She attended school in the Webster area. Following school Betty worked at various places.

On July 24, 1943, Betty was united in marriage to Alva Paul Sheraden and he died June 14, 1980.

Following her marriage, Betty worked first at Downey's Prairie Home and Dugger's Prairie Home. She then went to work as a cook at Pekin school for 5 years. Later, Betty worked at Dickey's Prairie Home and lastly Mike's Prairie Home.

Betty became a member of the Pekin Methodist Church in 1944 and was currently a member of the Prairie View United Methodist Church. She was also a member of the United Methodist Women, a 65-year member of the Royal Neighbors, and one of the last members of the Jolly Janes Club. Betty was a Popcorn Reader for 15 years and was still attending the sewing club at Ollie Baptist Church until just before Christmas. Betty loved to cook and bake and spent her life in the kitchen.

She is survived by a son: Alva Lee Sheraden of Packwood; two daughters, Donna Wolf of Packwood and Linna (& Mike) Ament of Richland; 8 grandchildren: Ronda (& Brian) Schultz, Tony (& Ann) Wolf, Matthew (& Lisa) Wolf, Todd (& Rachel) Ament, Kelly (& Alan) Townsend, Angela (& John) Martin, Lisa Wallace; 20 great-grandchildren: Kaleb Watson, Erik, Garrett, Paige, Gavin, Aaron, Brennan, Callie Wolf, Halie and Emily Ament, Kevin and Megan Adams, Ashley and Lindsay Sanders, Joah and Damaris Wallace, and Taylor, Mackenzie, and Blake Webster; a great-great-granddaughter: Sophie Sanders; a sister: Phyllis Renner of Sigourney; a brother, Robert Glandon of Washington; and a host of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a daughter, Clyda Berry; two brothers: Lyle and Marvin Glandon; and a sister, Madge Gapen.

Funeral services were Monday, January 13, 2014 at 10:30 A.M. in the Packwood Christian Church with Pastor Frosty Van Vorst and Reverend Carla Nelson officiating. Burial was in the Ollie Cemetery at Ollie. Visitation was Sunday after 1:30 P.M. in the Packwood Christian Church. Memorials may be made to Jefferson County Relay for Life or Prairie View United Methodist Women.
