MONTICELLO - Ben Thuman, 79, died Friday, March 25, at John McDonald hospital following a long illness. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at St. Matthew Lutheran church with the Rev. Anton Kirkegaard officiating. Burial was made at the Oakwood cemetery.

Mr. Thuman was born Jan. 27, 1887 at Ostfriesland, Germany, the son of Henry Bernhard and Gesina Augusta Reuter Thuman. He came with his family to United States in 1888 and they settled in Wayne township, where he received his education.

On April 6, 1915, he was married to Augusta Belling at Wayne Zion Lutheran church. They lived in the Scotch Grove community until moving to Monticello in the fall of 1946. He was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran church.

Survivors include his wife Augusta; two children, Mrs. Louis (Edna) Pegorick of Wyoming and Louis of Scotch Grove; one granddaughter and one half sister, Mrs. Meta Serbousek of Monticello.

He was preceded in death by three sisters and two brothers.

Pallbearers were Vernon Null, Elwill Null, John Husman, Robert Helgens, Emil Zimmerman and August Husman.
