MONTICELLO - Dr. L. J. Swift, long time Monticello osteopath, died Saturday at his residence. Funeral services were held Wednesday at 2 p.m. from the DeJong Funeral home at Keokuk. Burial was made at the Sunset Memorial Gardens at Keokuk with the Rev. Horace Parsons officiating.

Born Dec. 20, 1878 at Grant City, Mo., he was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Swift. He was a graduate of the Osteopathic college of Kirksville, Mo. He was a member of the Methodist church, Shriners chapter OES of which he was a past patron, a member of the Iowa Consistory of Cedar Rapids and a member of the Burns Lodge AF & AM No. 173 of Monticello. He had practiced in Monticello for the past 36 years.

Survivors include two sons, Dr. Walter Swift of Keokuk and Dr. Luther Swift of Lees Summit, Mo. He is also survived by two sisters, three brothers, one grandson and one granddaughter.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, one brother and one son, Charles, who died in infancy.
