19 September 1946 - The Anamosa Journal

OLIN - Funeral service for August W. Luckstead, 81, who died Tuesday afternoon at the home of his son, Rollie, were held this Thursday afternoon at the United Brethren church. Mr. Luckstead had been ill six weeks.

Rev. W. T. Boston was officiating pastor. Burial was made in the Olin cemetery. Short service was held at the home preceding the rites.

Mr. Luckstead, a retired farmer, was born in Clinton county. His wife died in 1940.

Besides his son, Rollie he is survived by another son, Norris, also of Olin; seven grandchildren, and a sister, Mrs. Ida Shrader, Center Junction.

OLIN - Funeral service for August W. Luckstead, 81, who died Monday, Sept. 16, at the home of his son near Olin, was held Thursday at the United Brethren church.

Rev. W. T. Boston was the officiating pastor and burial was in the Olin cemetery. Rev. William Strait sang two numbers, accompanied by Mrs. Nellie Stivers. Pallbearers were Claus Hansen, Ed Kreger, William Cruise, Martin Jurgensen, Carl Grabbe and Archie Wood.

August William Luckstead was born in Clinton county near Charlotte, Jan. 4, 1865. His parents, John Sophia Luckstead, were born, reared and married in Germany. They came to America in 1857.

He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith in his early years. He spent his boyhood and youth on the farm. He attended the district school of Waterford township after which he devoted his entire time to the cultivation of the farm.

Sept. 28, 1898, he was married to Miss Wilhelmina Specht, at Preston, Iowa. She died in May, 1940. To this union three sons were born: Henry, who preceded his father in death in November, 1940; Rolly and Norris, both of Olin.

He had been in failing health for the last six months.

Surviving are his two sons, seven grandchildren, and one sister, Mrs. Ida Schroeder, Center Junction. Two brothers and two sisters preceded him in death.
