Funeral services for Dr. Paul W. Priest, 35, Monticello, were held Monday morning at the Monticello Presbyterian church.

Dr. Priest, an optometrist, was killed early Thursday evening when the car he was driving went out of control at the east edge of town on Highway 38. Auto, which was traveling west into town, crossed to the left shoulder and traveled there for a distance before hitting a bridge abutment. Dr. Priest suffered a broken neck.

Masonic services were held Sunday night at the Devaney Funeral home. Rev. John Wild conducted the church services. Military burial was scheduled at Oakdale cemetery, Davenport. Pallbearers were Dave Miller, C. M. O'Conor, Dr. Clarence Hosford, Dave Plugel, Lawrence Otten and Dr. Hinkles.

Dr. Priest had been a optometrist in Monticello for seven years. He was a graduate of the State University of Iowa, Iowa City, and had been a member of the Air Force in Korea.

He is survived by his wife, Mary, two children; his father, William, Kansas City, Mo.; his mother, Mrs. Marion Rudolph, Huntington Beach, Calif.; a brother and a half brother.

Dr. Priest was born Sept. 29, 1928 at Davenport, the son of William and Marian Johnston Priest. He attended grade school in Moline, Ill. and was graduated from Wentworth Military Academy. He attended Coe college in Cedar Rapids and received his BA degree from the University of Iowa. He received his doctor's degree from Pacific University at Forest Grove, Ore. He served four years in the U.S. Air Force.

Prior to coming to Monticello in March 1958, he was associated with Johnston and Rogers Optometrists in Davenport.

He was a member of First Presbyterian church, Rotary club, Burns Lodge AF & AM, Jaycees, Greater Monticello Committee, American Optometric Assn. and Iowa Optometric Assn.

He is survived by his wife, Mary, a daughter, Lydia and a son, Paul, Jr., all of the home in Monticello; his mother, Mrs. Marian Rudolph of Huntington Beach, Calif.; his father, William Priest of Kansas City, Mo.; a brother, David of Scott Depot, W. Va., and a half brother, Zen Rudolph of Huntington Beach.

He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Dr. Paul Johnston, noted Davenport Optometrist.

Pallbearers were David B. Miller, Dr. Hinkles, C. M. O'Conner, Dr. C. R. Hosford, Dave Flugel and Lawrence Otten.
