May 16, 1946 - The Anamosa Journal

Funeral rites were held at 9:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Patrick's Catholic church for Miss Kate Flaherty, 86, who died Tuesday. Burial was made at Holy Cross cemetery. John Hanlon, Phil Dale and James E. Remley.

Loder Funeral home was in charge of arrangements. Only survivors are nieces and nephews.

May 23, 1946 - The Anamosa Journal

Miss Catherine A. Flaherty, 86, died Tuesday, May 14, at Dubuque. Funeral service was held Thursday morning at St. Patrick's church. Rev. J. A. McMahon was in charge, assisted by Rev. Ivan Boyd. Burial was made in Holy Cross cemetery. Pallbearers were: B. I. McLaughlin, John Hayes, Frank Hayes, J. E. Remley, John Hanlon and Phil Daly. Loder funeral home was in charge of arrangements.

Catherine Alberta Flaherty, daughter of Timothy and Bridget Flaherty, was born March 17, 1860, at Alberta, Canada. Her parents, four brothers and three sisters preceded her in death.

She attended the rural schools in Cass township and was a student at St. Catherine's academy in the state of Wyoming three years while at home with her sister, Mrs. Mary Metcalf.

She and her sister, Anna, operated a millinery shop known as the "Flaherty Sisters' Shop" in Anamosa for 40 years.

Surviving are the following nieces and nephews: Frank, Harry and Eugene Flaherty, Eva Flaherty, Mrs. George Bauman, Grand Island, Neb.; Mrs. J. E. Dickson, Toddville, Iowa, and Mrs. John McGuire, Chicago, Ill.
