Funeral service for Mrs. John Oltmanns, 54, who died last Friday at a Monticello hospital following a long illness, was held Monday at St. Paul's American Lutheran church with Rev. H. L. Buesing officiating. Interment was made in Prairie Hill cemetery. Casketbearers were William Albers, Norman Hinrichs, Wilbur Hinrichs, Louie Oltmanns, Carl Ortgies and Herman Ortgies. Smykil Home for Funerals was in charge of arrangements.
Meta Margaret, daughter of John D. and Hilke Catherine Janssen Hinrichs, was born Oct. 11, 1891, in Wayne township. She was baptized Dec. 6, 1891, and confirmed in the Lutheran faith April 8, 1906.
On April 30, 1919, she was married to John H. Oltmanns, Cass township. Home was made on a farm in Cass township where they have lived 27 years, and where two years ago they celebrated their silver wedding anniversary. Five children, four of whom survive, were born to the union.
March 26, 1945, she was taken to a Monticello hospital where she was a patient for two weeks. This year on March 22 it was found necessary to return to the same hospital, and the next day she partook of Holy Communion at her own request. She returned home again for several days, but on April 4 was again hospitalized. She died there at noon the next day.
Surviving are her husband, John H. Oltmann, Anamosa; three sons, Carl and Albert, twin brothers, and Emil at home; one daughter, Marie, Mrs. Elvern Capron; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. John D. Hinrichs, Monticello; two brothers, John Henry and Tobias Hinrichs, Tipton; one sister, Mrs. Albert Oltmanns, Anamosa; a granddaughter, Katherine Marie, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Oltmanns.
One daughter, Dorothy, and three brothers died in infancy, and one sister, Mrs. George Folkers, died in 1940.
